Visiting, Fishing, Watching the Storm

“Hold us in quiet through the age-long minute
While Thou art silent, and the wind is shrill;
Can the boat sink while Thou, dear Lord, art in it?
Can the heart faint that waiteth on Thy will?
~ Amy Carmicheal

Things that brought me joy in May:

The afternoon the storms swept in from Oklahoma; rain and homemade lattes

Surprising Jared with baked banana bread upon finishing his semester

The greeter at Walmart who was singing Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus

Late-night Lowe’s runs and Jared on his back, fixing my sink

How I moved my ironing board to be in front of the window; ironing shirts for Sunday in the evening light

A full Lord’s Day for worship, a Jubilee Potluck of Mexican food, a business meeting, and conversations long afterwards

Jared and I taking a Sunday evening walk behind the elementary school and playing a game of one-v-one basketball

A whirlwind weekend visit to see my family and the kids roller blading across the street to meet me at the car, yelling my name

A big street taco meal with the whole posse and wiffle ball until after dark

Waking up in the Edgewood house, sharing black coffee and conversation with Dad and Mom like old times

On a week when everything seemed to pile up like the dishes (dogs, health, Jared’s chaplaincy job, our trip, our plans), the great comfort of a God Who doesn’t just know what will happen, but Who knows what is best for us

Road trip home, iced coffees, conversations with my hubby, Father Gilbert radio dramas

How Mom texts me with gardening questions

Jared bringing a potted pansy home from work

Sewing napkins and making whipped honey as gifts

Janaya sending fun things and letters in the mail

Taking an observation hive of bees to the school with Rodney, and how much the kids love him, and how he always talks about his worm farm

An evening walk & milkshake

Visiting Troy and Karen up on the mountain and leaving with fresh eggs and a plant

A hot afternoon in the kitchen, listening to Avi Kaplan which always reminds me of our summer trips out West

Curtis Coffee Company on a Saturday morning with a few ladies from the church

This well-said and much-needed article on young women who want to become mothers

Hanging a laundry line outside for towels, pulling them off in the evening sunlight, catmint and rubber boots by the back door, Jared out in the garden

A beautiful, beautiful storm rolling up and over the trees

Violet smiling her toothless smile at all her kindergarten graduation gifts

Fishing all Sunday afternoon until it was time to go back for evening service

The day we watched the radars all afternoon and evening, waiting on the storm

A good, ol’ fashioned debate at a theater in the railroad town of Morrilton, and the Great Gospel of Jesus going forth by His Word

All-sufficient grace
