Seedlings, Siegfried, & Spring Mountain

I say to the Lord, ‘You are my Lord;
I have no good apart from you…’
The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup;
you hold my lot.
The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.”

~ Psalm 16:2, 5-6

March goodness (and a little Madness):

Sweet Sunday mornings at church

Jared’s grandmother’s roommate at the nursing home who always announces him as “the preacher”

A gentle rain and finishing Hannah Coulter

Jared’s new bird book

Planting a line of potatoes and onions in the big garden

Jared’s parents out on their front porch rocking chairs

Bottling spring honey orders

Putting away winter and tidying the house

Kaye’s birthday party; manicotti, salad, banana cake & coffee, and lots of visiting around the table

Weekend visit back to Missouri and a big dinner at Dad and Mom’s with all the siblings, kiddos, and grandpas

Topgolf with Trent & Alli

The house bustling with wedding shower preparations & going to Alli’s hair appointment with her

Afternoon roadtrip, Buc-ees coffee, and listening to Out of the Silent Planet on audiobook together

Finding a Mexican restaurant in a little railroad town

The Resurrection Letters, every year

The woods greening and thickening, the purple clover arriving

Quiet Mondays in March, meal planning and fridge cleanout

Long evenings of light

Getting up early to bake a loaf and put meatballs on for company

Laundry day

Bright hyacinths popping on the doorstep

Trying to make a matcha latte and mostly failing (because I am not that cool, apparently)

Jared calling me from the churchyard to ask, “Do you want a rooster?” and bringing home Siegfried, our first and trusty rooster who rouses us at dawn (and at other times)

Chick Days at the Tractor Supply Company

An overalls kind of day: cleaning the guest room, making banana bread, running downtown for spring decorations, and helping Jared with the chicken pen

How much Jared loves March Madness

A visit from friends all the way from England; sharing a meal together, banana bread & tea, and visiting in the kitchen till long after dark

Enjoying the back porch on a warm morning with Hannah, such a kindred spirit

Daffodil by Paper Horses

Dinner with Jackson & Lindsay

The day we got our hens from Charlie at his house up on Mill Creek Mountain, high and windy, where 140 chickens came clucking to greet us

Introducing our hens, Helen and Harriet, to Siegfried the rooster

Golden hour, vanilla tea, and reading at the kitchen table together

Finding an egg in the nesting box

Planting and transplanting seedlings

Sunrise run

Eggs & Greek yogurt

Visiting Bonnie

Martha describing the wildflowers that grow in Alaska during the summer, the lupines and fireweed

The drive between mountains to Stillwell to visit Faith and work on mending projects together; hemming pants and starting curtains

Chicken breasts, grilled zucchini, & salad

Watching the basketball game with the windows open

Busy morning in the kitchen, two crockpots of soup and broth on the stove

Sitting on the porch swing for a long while, as the sun took its time in setting

The morning Jared tilled the garden

Our one-year anniversary trip up to a cabin on Mount Nebo, which had a stone fireplace and a mountain view

The gentle shape of the Ozarks

Morning light filling up the valley

A few quiet days together; trail walks, coffee, reading all afternoon, and making a steak dinner together in the cabin’s little kitchen

Wind sighing around the eaves and moving the shortleaf pines

Spring making its way up to Spring Mountain
