Summer smell of hot pavement

Brewing kombucha, cold coffee, and sourdough starter

Fountain Day— when the boys take the rowboat to the center of the pond and replace the fountain for summer

Taking Jared on a tour of the garden and greenhouse, showing him each box and plant

Morning coffee and Bible study together

Spikeball in the pouring rain, then sitting on the back porch wrapped in a towel to dry off

Walking the botanical gardens— iris, roses, peonies, herbs, and even colorful lettuces

The glass dome climbing with green and tropical things, like banana and avocado trees

Stopping to watch the honeybees work

Learning tennis

Family pancake breakfast

Embroidering a duck onto a tea towel for Mom

A Sunday evening thunderstorm and houseful of children, reading Miss Twiggley’s Tree with all the screens open to the wind

Running every morning for a week and noticing the patterns of the neighborhood and neighbors

A long and wise conversation with my poet friend, Hannah

Natalie’s graduation

Watering, mulching, planting in the garden, then sitting in my hammock to look over it all

Making flower crowns for Mindi and Esther

Bringing home tomato plants and bags of kale from Bill at church, and making soup with it
